one reason why the industry has moved to the 'next generation' of light bulbs is the inordinate cost of replacing this machinery - if indeed it could be replaced. it was deemed more prudent to opt for the new so-called low energy bulbs which have a tiny motherboard onto which are affixed electrical components containing chemicals and the bulb itself which contains deadly mercury gas. In minute writing on most new-bulb packaging it warns to aereate a room for up to 15 minutes should a breakage occur as it releases the mercury dust which can be toxic to humans and animals. The old bulbs were far superior with their empty glass dome and little pieces of wire that gave off a good bright light, cheaper and more efficiently.
