Detention Sergeant Fired After Hitting InmateA Hernando County detention sergeant hired four months ago is out of a job after he was caught hitting an inmate in the face on the jail’s security camera. At 6:34 Tuesday morning, former Detention Sergeant David Dixon was working at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, occupying the booking section of the jail. Inmate Brian McCormack, who was booked earlier for Obstruction without Violence, was holding his bed roll, in the process of being moved to a housing unit when Dixon struck him in the face with an opened hand. The victim, who hadn’t provoked the incident, was seen standing still on camera footage, holding his bedding when the attack occurred. On Thursday, Dixon was arrested by the Pasco County Warrant Detectives at his home. Before he was taken to Pasco County Jail, Dixon, who was hired August 8, was served with a termination letter. Dixon was charged with battery and had a bond of $500. He has since bonded out.
