[Raw Video] Dog Rescued From Los Angeles River by Helicopter

FULL LENGTH RAW VIDEO [01/22/10] A dog airlifted to safety Friday in a dramatic rescue from the storm-swelled Los Angeles River was reported doing well hours later at an animal shelter. The male German Shepherd mix was rushed to the shelter freezing and shivering after a firefighter was lowered from a helicopter to pluck him from the swirling waters. It was not immediately clear how he became stranded there but a spokesperson at the SEAACA animal shelter said he may have been in the water for more than three hours. He had no cuts, scrapes or broken bones, the spokesperson said, calling him ?pretty lucky.? He also had no collar, tags or microchip. Television viewers across the country were transfixed by live coverage of the rescue as the fireman struggled briefly with the dog, then managed to subdue him just enough to heave him to safety. Steep concrete walls on either side of the river made it impossible for the canine to get out on his own. Vernon City Fire Battalion Chief Andrew Guth told Fox News one Fire Department rescuer had been bitten but his injuries appeared minor. He said he arrived on the scene just as the dog was being walked to an ambulance, looking tired and cold but seemingly in good spirits.
