Light rail train wraps white van around pole after driver run a redlight

New video shows the moment of impact in a violent Phoenix light rail crash last Wednesday. Surveillance video onboard the train shows a white van drive onto the tracks, causing the crash. The female van driver apparently ran a red light before getting in the wreck, police said. quot;It appears she failed to stop for a red signal light, quot; Police said. The crash marks the 51st time a light rail train has been hit this year. Police in Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa say all 51 crashes have been caused by inattentive drivers. No METRO light rail drivers have been cited. The driver of the van has not yet officially been cited. Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Dorian Jackson said both the driver of the van and the driver of the train were transported to a Phoenix-area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A passenger on the light rail also received minor injuries. Video from Air15 showed the truck twisted and mangled against a light pole, squeezed up against the side of the train.
