Multiple spinouts caught on tape at icy intersection

(raw video)WZZM 13 2/11/2008 10:51:57 PM Grand Rapids Michigan- Ice created a dangerous situation tonight at the intersection of Knapp Street and Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids. A viewer called the newsroom to report multiple accidents in the area. Cameras caught a number of the crashes on tape. As people slowed down for the intersection they were unable to stop. Many slammed into a nearby snow bank, while others slid into the intersection, and at least one hit a telephone pole. Grand Rapids Streets and Sanitation Department said they were aware of the problem but were running low on sand. After calling again and telling city officials how dangerous the situation was, road crews finally showed up and spread salt and sand on the area.
