Brazen flytipper caught trashing neighborhood

Shameless Daniel Ashworth couldn't wait to get to the recycling centre... So the brazen menace decided to dump his truck-load of rubbish - some containing hazardoud materials like asbestos - in a Blackpool street. But his astonishing drive-by crime was, sadly for him, spotted by CCTV cameras. Amazing footage shows the 22-year-old father-of-two driving a Ford Transit truck at 30mph when he suddenly used the hydraulics to lift the back to allow rubbish to tidal wave across Keswick Road in Blackpool. Magistrates heardAshworth of The Strand, Fleetwood, had already been handed a lifetime ban from collecting waste because of his previous fly tipping antics. Ashworth pleaded guilty to 10 charges under Environmental Protections laws relating to the carrying and depositing of waste including the Keswick Road incident when he was the driver. His workmate Rick Taylor, 40, Whinfield Avenue, Fleetwood admitted four similar offences. Victoria Cartmell ,prosecuting for Blackpool Council, said waste carried included old toilets ,human faeces ,full black bags, mattresses and building rubble. She said Ashworth ran two firms, D and A Demolition and D and A Waste Management. The prosecutor said: "This is the worst case of its type we have dealt with. "Quite simply Mr Ashworth and his associates would be paid to move rubbish by businesses and house owners sometimes over two tons at a time. "They took the money and then fly-tipped the loads because taking them to the official tip would have removed any profit because of the official fees charged." She outlined five incidents including the high speed tip and another when rubbish was dumped near a school and in a hotel car park. Waheed Oman Baber, defending Ashworth, said: "My client has been under personal stress and during that time has neglected the way he has run his business. The court will be pleased to know he has a job - not in waste - but as a labourer. "Sending him to prison will have a devastating effect on his family and children." Peter Cave, for Taylo,r said: "He accepts he was involved in one fly tip the other offences involve him being the registered owner of the vehicle used for such purposes. Taylor is Ashworth's friend not a business partner. He just did the odd job for his friend." Taylor was given an 18 week jail term suspended for a year. He was placed on supervision and must do 80 hours unpaid work. He was made the subject of a three year CRIMBO - criminal behaviour order. Ashworth was given a 39 weeks jail suspended for 12 month and 100 unpaid work, a four year CRIMBO and told to pay lb1,000 compensation towards the clean up operation which followed his tipping.
